Carjacking Brothers Wreck Stolen Vehicle In I-95 Pursuit With Baby, Loaded Guns (Details)

Two carjackers and brothers were arrested after leading an Interstate 95 pursuit through Spotsylvania County with an 18-month-old child in the stolen vehicle, police said.

Larique E. Leach, 18, of Maryland, and Larry Leach, 22, of Washington DC, were both being held without bond in the Rappahannock Regional Jail, Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Major Troy J. Skebo said.

Trouble began on Saturday, Sept. 2 around 3:20 p.m., when a citizen reported he was carjacked at gunpoint by two men in the 11100 block of Salem Station Boulevard in Fredericksburg, Skebo said. 

The suspects left with the victims 2007 Honda sedan and his wallet. Deputy M. Satterwhite spotted the stolen vehicle near Battlefield Middle school on Leavells Road, and attempted to stop it. The suspects failed to stop and a motor vehicle pursuit was initiated. 

The suspects led police along Salem Church Road to Route 3 then continued to I-95 north. Stafford County Sheriff's Office deputies joined the pursuit on the interstate and attempted a rolling roadblock. The suspects attempted to avoid this and crashed near 144-mile marker. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. 

One of the suspect's children, 18 months old, was found in the back seat of the vehicle unharmed. Police also found two loaded guns, one stolen, they said.

The driver was identified as Leach, who was charged with Felony Eluding, Child endangerment, Abuse and neglect of a child, possession of a firearm while possessing a schedule I or II drug, motor vehicle theft, armed robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possess a firearm with altered serial number and numerous traffic offenses. 

The passenger was identified as his older brother, Larry Leach. He was charged with child endangerment, abuse and neglect of a child, armed robbery, motor vehicle theft, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, concealed weapon, and possession of a stolen firearm from Clayton County, Georgia. 

Child protective services assisted with placement of the child to a family member.
